Photography Portfolio Website

The Challenge

A photographer with a growing body of work needed a professional online presence that matched the quality of their imagery.

They had no website — just an Instagram account — which meant they were missing out on potential clients who wanted to see a full portfolio, learn about their services, or get in touch.

The photographer needed a site that felt artistic and intentional, worked beautifully on mobile (where most of their audience browses), and made it effortless for visitors to explore the work without distractions.

The Approach

The priority was to let the photography speak for itself. I designed a minimal, gallery-focused website that strips away everything unnecessary and puts the imagery front and center.

Visual Direction: Clean, dark-toned aesthetic with generous whitespace to frame the photography without competing with it. No visual clutter — every element on the page earns its place.

Site Structure: A streamlined five-page layout — Home, Portfolio, Blog, About, and Contact — giving the photographer everything they need to showcase work, tell their story, and convert visitors into inquiries without overwhelming navigation.

Homepage Design: A full-width hero image with a single tagline sets the tone immediately. Below, a curated image grid gives visitors a taste of the photographer's range and draws them deeper into the portfolio.

Gallery Layout: A scrollable image grid designed for visual impact. The layout is intentionally spacious so each image gets room to breathe rather than being crammed into a cluttered mosaic.

Mobile Optimization: With the majority of the photographer's audience coming from Instagram, mobile performance was non-negotiable. Every page was tested and optimized for seamless viewing on phones and tablets — fast loading, tap-friendly navigation, and images that display beautifully at any screen size.

Platform: Built on Squarespace for ease of future updates. The photographer can add new images, update their portfolio, and publish blog posts without needing technical help.

The Result

A polished, professional portfolio site that reflects the photographer's artistic vision and gives potential clients a clear path from discovering the work to making contact. The site provides a permanent home for the photographer's portfolio beyond social media — a platform they fully own and control.
